BBC - Doctor Who - Farewell... and Hello! - News & Features

BBC - Doctor Who - Farewell... and Hello! - News & Features

Doctor Who's lead writer and executive producer, Steven Moffat, last night revealed that 'the days of the Ponds are drawing to a close'. He was alongside Matt Smith (the Doctor) at a Q&A that followed a screening of this year's Christmas Special, The Doctor, The Widow and The Wardrobe at London's Television Centre.
Although he didn't go into full details he revealed that Amy and Rory, played by Karen Gillan and Arthur Darvill, would depart in the next series and Matt Smith commented that everyone would miss them but noted that one of the strengths of Doctor Who is its ability to change, or as he put it, to 'regenerate'.
The audience at the Q&A released an audible gasp at the news. Amy and Rory first appeared in The Eleventh Hour, Matt Smith's full debut as the Doctor. Karen Gillan has appeared in every subsequent episode up until The Wedding of River Song and Rory achieved full companion status from 2010's A Christmas Carol. They've proven immensely popular in both the UK and overseas and already there's speculation about how they will make their farewells, but Steven Moffat would not be drawn! He did let us know, however, that the Doctor would be a getting a new 'friend' but again, he wasn't about to reveal any more details!
Steven has previously revealed that 14 new episodes have been commissioned and all will feature Matt Smith as the Time Lord. So, with coming and goings, a bumper number of episodes on the way and the 50th anniversary in 2013, the next couple of years look set to be a hugely exciting time for Doctor Who.

Sam and mark's BIG Friday wind up

Todays UK TV and Radio
Sam and Mark's Big Friday Wind Up
On: BBC 2 South
Date: Sunday 6th November 2011
Time: 09:00 to 10:00
Sam and Mark get the party started with Daniel Anthony from The Sarah Jane Adventures, and music from Cover Drive. In a show full of hidden camera pranks and surprises, three kids get an exclusive glimpse of a new Doctor Who alien that seems to have genuine supernatural powers.
According to The Sun, The Christmas Special, set in World War Two will feature QI and Black Books comedian Bill Bailey, Pointless host and voice of Sarah Jane Adventures Mr. Smith Alexander Armstrong, Fast Show Comedienne Arabella Weir and as suspected, Outnumbered star Claire Skinner as widower Madge Arwell.
The World War Two setting would seem to fit in with rumours that we’ve heard that the special will be based on C. S. Lewis’ seminal Christian fantasy novel, The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe. And let’s be honest, as speculation goes: Bill Bailey would make a fantastic Mr. Tumnus and Alexander Armstrong has a great voice for Aslan. That being said, and given Aslan’s role in the story, surely the almost god-like Doctor would be well suited to it.
The Daily Star confirms that the special will be based on The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe, telling us:
The special sees the Time Lord (Matt Smith, 28) crash land in war-torn England. Posing as the caretaker of a creepy old house in Dorset he embarks on a magical mystery adventure with Madge Arwell and her two children, Lily and Cyril.
The three have been evacuated from London as the capital comes under attack during World War Two.
And there’s plenty of surprises as the Doctor leads them into a new world.
SFX reports that the director for the Special will be Farren Blackburn. Farren’s previous work includes Survivors and the forthcoming BBC Three supernatural drama, The Fades.
I guess that puts an end to my hope that the Christmas Special would be called How the Daleks Stole Christmas.

READ ABOUT EP.9 2 "NIGHT TERRORS"

LAST BUT NOT LEAST HERE'S A FEW WORDS FROM MARK TO GIVE YOU A CLEARER IDEA:

The story takes place in a tower block and focuses on a little boy named George, " who is frightened of everything. He has a nervous cough and a nervous blink, and he’s frightened of clowns, old toys, enclosed spaces, open spaces, vans… and paraticularly of something being in the cupboard in his bedroom. And the Doctor turns up and tells him that he’s right! [comment: "Monsters are real," perhaps?] I can’t tell you anything more … except that the monsters are the creepiest things ever.".

And the Doctor is up at George’s flat at the Council Estate. Amy is taking out the trash. There’s a mystery.
There is an old lady (Mrs. Rossiter) who features in this story. Here’s some dialogue:
"You talking to yourself Elsie? They say that’s the first sign!"
And just before the George dialogue she says "Oh lord, not rats" when she hears a noise in the bin.

READ ABOUT EP.9 2 "NIGHT TERRORS"

NOW THIS IS WHAT EASY TV HAD TO SAY:

Daniel Mays and Emma Cunniffe play parents of a little boy who’s scared because his sister’s action figures come to life!

ALSO
Mark Gatiss … promises that Night Terrors features some of the scariest moments he’s ever dreamt up! The adventure has a modern day setting and features a little boy who has a fear of something… Can the Doctor help him?

READ ABOUT EP.9 2 "NIGHT TERRORS"

NEXT UP THIS IS A QUOTE FROM THE RADIO TIMES:

A little boy called George is terrified of something lurking in his bedroom cupboard…
The Doctor receives a strange letter, begging "Help me"…
Daniel Mays (last seen in Outcasts and Ashes to Ashes) plays worried dad Alex, who teams up with the Doctor to help battle his son George’s demons. But not before Rory and Amy find themselves miniaturised and sucked into the strange doll’s house in George’s cupboard.
What else can the Doctor and Alex do but follow them inside…?

READ ABOUT EP.9 2 "NIGHT TERRORS"

THIS IS HOT STRAIGHT FROM THE "BBC PRESS OFFICE":

The Doctor receives a distress call from the scariest place in the Universe: a child’s bedroom, as the time-travelling drama continues.
Every night George lies awake, terrorised by every fear you can possibly imagine – fears that live in his bedroom cupboard. His parents are getting desperate – George needs a doctor.
Fortunately for George, his desperate pleas for help break through the barriers of all time and space and the Doctor makes a house call. But allaying his fears won’t be easy; because George’s monsters are real.
